Interactive Application for the Ashmolean Museum

The application was developed for an exhibition stand at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. The object represented is the Alfred Jewel, a 6.3 cm artefact from the 9th century. By creating a detailed 3D model via
image-based acquisition and developing an interactive mobile application that runs on the iPad, visitors can admire the fine carving on the jewel very closely without the risk of damaging the object. The application enables visitors to turn and zoom on the object by interacting with the touchscreen using the usual gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom and dragging.

A web and Windows version of the application has been developed to broaden the range of devices on which it can run.
